Revolution Review
With "Revolution," All Star United
unleashes yet another Pop influenced California sounding
rock album which could quite easily be one of the best this
year sees.
Let me start off by saying that this is a great CD. Hands
down. If you don't own it, buy it.
I've always loved All Star United for the fact that every
album is fresh and new without straying from who they are
as a band. This does create a small problem though. The similarities
in songs from previous albums are pretty strong. Mainly the
song, "Made in Heaven." While a great song, few
won't agree that there is a strong similarity with their
previous song "If We Were Lovers." In both songs
when the titles of the songs are sung, it's note for note.
For this reason I did have to drop the album down to four
stars.
Don't let the previous keep you from buying this album though.
The other songs are masterpieces. One magazine said it best
when they were talking about Ian's (the Lead Singer/Songwriter)
lyrical abilities. They described him as a modern-day Steve
Taylor with his words. Besides keeping you entertained musically,
the lyrics behind the songs keep you thinking for days. From
in depth thought provoking spiritual songs, to a love song
that inspired me to play it for my wife on the day of our
wedding, Ian threads words together unlike any songwriter.
In the end, I highly recommend this CD. Expecially if you
need a song stuck in your head. I don't know about you, but
give "Revolution," a listen. That has the most
catchy chorus ever written to the point I walk around beating
my head wanting it out but at the same time wanting more.
That's what A.S.U. does to listeners. A must for any fan
of such bands as Smash Mouth (Ironic they have a song called "All
Star,") and/or Supertones later material. Picture the
Beach Boys if they were frozen in there 20's, thawed out
now, given modern instruments, and taught wonderful guitar
riffs and musical hooks.
