Smash Hits Review

Pack all your friends into the hatchback, hit the strip, and crank up All Star United's Smash Hits. The carefree euphoria in this music is begging to accompany a joy ride. These bouncy bubble-gum-chewing pop-rock tunes are laced with choruses that capture the dancing soul and generate an adrenaline rush that has no stop signs. Dull moments are few and far between. Clever lyrics, innovative guitar work, and song arrangements that have a dash of musical delirium create straight-up pop music with an eclectic appeal. Most bands would never get away with a compilation album as a third release, but these songs really are smashing. Check out "Beautiful Thing" or "Popular Americans" for proof. All Star United treats their faith the same way they treat their music. They have fun with it. They flaunt it like a silver-sequined suit sported among drab T-shirts and trousers. One wonders if their reference to God as a "Superstar" is more than metaphorical. This music is dripping with limelight.
