Home For Christmas Review
There are numerous musical
styles on this CD, but they are all tied together beautifully,
and the musicianship is superb, from the classical orchestral
mode to the very '50s rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree".
The orchestrations are mostly by Ronn Huff, and performed
by The London Studio Orchestra, and are simply exquisite,
as are the individuals like Shane Keister, who plays piano
on the fantastic "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)" and
2 other tracks. Grant's voice, though not strong, is charming,
and she has a lovely style. Her sound is one that falls gently
on the ears. "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)",
is a song Amy co-wrote with Chris Eaton, and is for me, the
highlight of this CD. The words are incredibly moving, and
apply not only to Mary as she carried Jesus within, but to
motherhood, and every new mother who must feel awe and little
fear; " I am waiting in a silent prayer / I am frightened
by the load I bear". Amy sings her composition with
conviction and passion. It is a perfect song and a perfect
performance.
Another standout is "I'll be home for Christmas",
with a great vocal by Amy, Clare Fischer playing a wonderful
jazzy piano, and lush and fabulous strings.
You don't have to wait until Christmas to enjoy this CD,
it's good music, anytime of the year. The booklet insert
includes all the lyrics, the sound is excellent, and total
time is 42'39
