Avalon Review
1996-01-01 - While Avalon's self-titled debut doesn't stray far
from the standard expectations of a pop vocal group, the album still manages to stand
out as unique. Avalon's vocal strength, the conception of producer Charlie Peacock,
is the main attraction and likability of the group.
Avalon didn't write very many of the songs on the album,
in fact most of the material was co-written by Peacock. The overall musical
(thanks to Peacock) and vocal (thanks to Avalon) quality of the album is
better than anything you'll get from Point of Grace, Considering Lily or Clear.
The two songs on the CD that really stand out as being unique are the opener
'Give It Up' and the second-to-last track 'Saviour Love'.
If you're looking for some catchy tunes, Avalon provides,
for most of the album. However, this debut easily falls into the mass of pop
vocal groups out there as Avalon develops their style. An even better bet is
their second CD, 'A Maze of Grace'.
