Bethany Dillon Review
I admit when I first read all the glowing
reviews for Bethany Dillon, I was wary. So often we hear
hype about new artists, and they seldom live up to the buzz.
I listened to songs clips on her website, but couldn't decide
whether to purchase her cd. Finally, I took a leap of faith
and bought it, and I haven't regretted that decision for
a second. The clips really don't do the album justice, in
my opinion. Bethany is truly buzzworthy - a talented singer,
songwriter, and musician who refuses to take the easy way
out. Drawing both on scriptural references and personal experiences,
Bethany has crafted an album that demands reflection and
repeated listening. The confessional tone of songs like "Beautiful" and "Why" are
perfectly juxtaposed with the assuredness of numbers such
as "All I Need", "Exodus(Faithful)" or "Great
Big Mystery" ("Nations fall when You speak and
You have spoken over me"). When listeners examine themselves,
they will probably find that they share many of the same
hopes, fears, struggles, and joys that Bethany experiences,
no matter what age. This is an album that is both positive
and pondering and certainly one of the best purchases I made
last year.
