David Crowder Band Honored With Premiere
Guitar Maker’s “Atom”
David Crowder Band,
one of the most sought after bands on college campuses
and beyond, has been honored once again by premiere guitar
maker, Tom Anderson, who fashioned his latest guitar offering
for the band’s Jason Solley.
Featuring guitars played by such music icons as Mick Jagger
and Keith Richards (Rolling Stones), Don Felder (Eagles),
Steve Miller (Steve Miller Band) and a host of others, Anderson’s
newest addition to his instrument line is called the “Atom.”
“ The idea behind ‘Atom’ was rooted in
a desire to combine the positive qualities of Les Paul’s
and Telecaster’s,” said Anderson. “My thoughts
for the design of this guitar had evolved over the years,
but I needed some outside influence to get me motivated.
Having worked with the band before, and knowing that Jason
mostly played his Les Paul, he had inspired me to finally
bring this idea to full creation.”
Los Angeles-based Anderson Guitars
were first brought to the band’s attention by DCB
guitarist, Jack Parker, when he received an Anderson Hollow
Drop Top Classic Player electric guitar as a Baylor University
graduation present. As David Crowder wrestled with the
sound of his guitars before the 250-plus concerts he does
each year, he decided to email Tom Anderson for help, which
resulted in Anderson creating the Crowdster Acoustic.
David Crowder Band has now added “Atom” to
their unique sound while they continue to explore the science
behind music and worship. The new guitar made quite the
impact while the band recorded its first new full-length
studio album in two years, A Collision, releasing Sept.
27.
“The Tom Anderson ‘Atom’ has been the
driving force for this record,” stated Parker, who
also now plays an Atom. “It has been used on 75% of
the songs, and that's a conservative estimate.”
The already critically acclaimed third
national release, which coincidentally features an image
of an atomic symbol on the cover, includes more than 73
minutes over 18 tracks and features the first studio version
of the concert favorite, “Here
Is Our King,” which released to radio the first week
in August. Most of A Collision was recorded in Waco, TX in
the barn behind Crowder’s house. Built in 1885 by then-Waco
corner drugstore owner and alchemist Wade Morrison, the barn’s
color resembles a Dr Pepper can, whose origins are Mr. Morrison’s
corner store. In addition to other new, groundbreaking songs
from the David Crowder Band, the album includes a cover of “Everybody
Wants to Go to Heaven” by Loretta Lynn and the band’s
first-ever take on bluegrass with “I Saw the Light” by
Hank Williams, Sr. The album also envelopes eschatology,
atomic energy, a hoedown and BBQ, a tsunami, Hiroshima and
cancer, Dr Pepper, Arabic numeral 3 and 4, pain and rescue.
You can catch the members of David
Crowder Band playing their Anderson guitars and brand new
