Can You Hear Us? Review

With their latest release "Can You Hear us?" David Crowder and his band have put out a CD that has ten heartfelt songs about having faith in God while living in the real world. "Our Love is Loud" and "God of Wrath" are two of my favorites on this CD as well as the immensely popular "Undignified" (by Matt Redman). This is an excellent CD that combines elements of the alternative/ folk/ worship rock/ popular Christian styles. The songs are sung with a passion and energy that is rare these days, and almost all of the songs are very singable- a couple of them I have even adapted and sung as praise choruses in church with my guitar. My only critique is that in general the songwriting and musical arranging on the album is not quite on par with some of the other great worship leaders and praise bands of today such as Brian Doerkson, Matt Redman and Paul Baloche/Lenny LeBlanc. Polished musicianship is not what Crowder and the band seem to be striving for anyway, but rather a more spontaneous sounding, unbridled and sometimes meditative energy with a message of faith. They rightly place the focus on worshipping the Lord through their music- I was deeply moved... Definitely worth checking out!
