Geoff Moore Review
1999-01-01 -
Geoff Moore's first solo release sets him on par with his
contemporaries Steven Curtis Chapman (who sings with Moore
on 'Thanks To You') and Michael W. Smith. It's also Geoff's
first release since 1997, when he and The Distance released
'Threads', which itself is a beautiful album.
The gentle piano notes and percussion that start off this
CD in Out Here had me hooked right away. The songs are all
solidly recorded and catchy, and although Geoff has a distinctive
style that's most evidently grown out of 'Threads', there's
still room to loosen up a bit and let his creative talents
roam free.
This album is far from the standard pop fare that's out
there, though. From the energetic 'Thanks To You' ('I've
been picked up when I was low / And I have never been left
alone / I know it's true, thanks to You') to the gentle 'Belong'
('For You I was created / To sing Salvation's song / For
You have bought me with Your blood / To You I do belong'),
there's more than enough beautiful lyrics and captivating
tunes to make this album a favorite.
If you liked 'Threads', or if you like Steven
Curtis Chapman, do yourself a favor and get this one. You'll
enjoy meeting Geoff Moore anew.
