Jars Of Clay Honored For Its Blood: Water
Mission Work In Africa
More than 190 Congressional
Angels in Adoption™,
selected by their United States Representatives and Senators,
and four National Angels in Adoption™, were recognized
at the Congressional Coalition for Adoption Institute's Annual
Angels in Adoption™ Gala in Washington, D.C. held Tuesday,
Sept. 13.
The Angels in Adoption™, honored for their outstanding
contributions toward the welfare of children in the United
States foster care system and orphans around the globe, have
worked to raise Congressional and public awareness about
the tens of thousands of foster children in the United States
and the millions of orphans worldwide in need of permanent,
safe, and loving homes. Chosen from all 50 states and the
District of Columbia, the Angels in Adoption™ were
awarded for their exceptional work as adoption champions
resulting in many of these children realizing their basic
need of a family.
The National Angels, recognized for their adoption and foster
care work on a broader scale, were First Lady Laura Bush;
Victoria Rowell, award winning actress and founder of The
Rowell Foster Children's Positive Plan; Jars of Clay, the
multi-platinum, Grammy Award winning recording artists and
founders of Blood:Water Mission; and Sesame Workshop, the
nonprofit educational organization behind award-winning programs
like Sesame Street and Dragon Tales.
President George W. Bush served as
Honorary Chair of the Angels in Adoption™ Gala. Tom Jarriel, award winning
journalist for ABC, served as Master of Ceremonies and Jars
of Clay provided this year’s entertainment.
While celebrated for its music and
writing, Jars of Clay is most concerned with the needs
in Africa. Compelled to make a difference, members Dan
Haseltine, Stephen Mason, Matt Odmark and Charlie Lowell
founded the Blood:Water Mission in early 2002. The first
effort of this non-profit was the “1000
Wells Project” with a goal of raising funds to build,
rebuild and repair 1000 wells in urban and rural areas of
sub-Saharan Africa. To date, 42 wells have been constructed
bringing clean water to more than 34,000 people. For more,
