Watching Over You Review

I have to begin by saying I am a huge fan of the Newsboys! I have seen them in concert at least 5 times. They are one of the most innovative Christian bands, and they stay true to the heart of their message... Jesus is Lord of all!
Phil Joel is a strong example of what the Newsboys have accomplished in Christian music, creativity and joy comes across with every note. This album is written in reflection of a life lived in Christ. He talks about what it is like to be; cared for by God, different than the status quo, saved by grace, and in awe of how wonderful Jesus really is!
His music is pop rock, driven by guitars and catchy hooks. He is definitely sincere about his faith and love for God. And that comes across loud and clear in each of his songs.
The title cut is great. It is varied in musical approach with acoustic and electric guitars. He showcases his great voice which can sing in regular melody lines and reach high into fallsetto ranges.
I especially like the song "Strangely Normal". I like his approach to telling what it's like to be a unique and loved creation of God. The song says, "Make for yourself no apologies. Keep your eyes on Jesus and let him be the author of our lives and, by following Jesus we become who we're supposed to be."
I love that message! Phil Joel is very positive and accurately portrays the benefits of a life lived in Christ. This is an enjoyable album and well worth your time!
