The Classics Review
Frankly, this is something I'm surprised
other Christian artists hadn't done before. Ray Boltz takes
11 classic Christian songs from the 70's and early 80's and
rerecords them. And it's a wonderful collection.
The songs alone are worth the price
of the CD. He's got the familiar ("Great is the Lord from Michael W. Smith,
Rich Mullins' "Awesome God," "People Need
the Lord" by Steve Green, "O Lord, You're Beautiful" by
Keith Green) and songs not as well known today but well known
back in the day ("He's Alive" Don Francisco's signature
song, "Rise Again" by Dallas Holm, "We Will
Stand" by Russ Taff, "If that Isn't Love" by
Dottie Rambo). Most of the time, he stays true to the original
songs, just updating the arrangements slightly. There are
a couple of missteps, like the drums on "He's Alive" and
again on "Rise Again." But these songs don't suffer
too much, and it's a minor annoyance overall.
This is a great place to get a sampling of classic Christian
music or for nostalgia buffs to go and remember some classic
songs.
