Gotee Signs Inner-city Youth Choir Sandtown
2002-11-14 - Gotee Records has finalized
a multi-album recording agreement with Baltimore-based urban
youth choir Sandtown. 'I love everything about Sandtown -
the music, the vision, the heart, and the story that lies
behind the very unique artistry,' says Gotee president, Joey
Elwood. 'But I know the question will be asked of us, 'Why
did you sign a large ensemble of kids, who can tour only
on a limited basis, and whose musical style does not fit
easily into the radio, press and retail infrastructure?'
My answer will be simple: 'We had to.' Our mission statement
is, 'To be musical missionaries to today's kids, with a heart
toward racial reconciliation,' and we just signed the living
embodiment of that vision - Sandtown. Sandtown's Gotee debut,
Based On A True Story, is being produced by Todd Collins
(tobyMac, Out of Eden, John Reuben) among others. The album
will showcase the choir's unique urban vocal stylings, which
thrive on hip-hop, gospel, and pop sensibilities. The album
has a May 6, 2003 street date.
