Selah reaches career milestone: 1 million
albums sold
Multi GMA Music Award-winning Curb recording
artist Selah recently surpassed sales of 1 million units.
Known for their fresh interpretations of hymns and classic
Christian songs, Selah's debut, Be Still My Soul, released
in 1999 and was followed by Press On (2001), Rose of Bethlehem
(2002), Hiding Place (2004) and Greatest Hymns (2005), all
of which have sold a combined total of more than 1 million
units.
"Selah's success has grown with the release of each
new project," said Benson Curb, Vice President Of Sales,
Curb Records. "They gain new fans every day, and it
is clear from a sales standpoint that Selah is making great
music people want to own." Selah's sales surged past
1 million following Family Christian Stores' special promotion
of the Rose of Bethlehem recording, which began earlier this
fall. The exclusive retailer of Selah's Christmas album this
year, Family Christian Stores has sold more than 95,000 units
of the project since the promotion began.
It currently holds the top spot on Nielsen SoundScan's Christian
Retail chart (week ending November 27). Rose of Bethlehem
also recently reached #1 on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog chart,
and the #3 position on the magazine's Top Holiday Albums
chart, alongside classic Christmas recordings by such artists
as Bing Crosby, Harry Connick, Jr. and Celine Dion. Earlier
this year, Selah's Greatest Hymns debuted at #1 on Nielsen
SoundScan's Christian Retail chart.
The compilation brings together performances
of 12 hymns from the group's three previous studio recordings,
as well as three selections available for the first time
on a Selah recording. Nominated for Artist of the Year
and Group of the Year at the 2005 GMA Music Awards, Selah's
best-selling 2004 recording, Hiding Place, featured the
multi-format Christian radio #1 "You Raise Me Up." This spring, the group
was featured on Michael W. Smith's "Healing Rain" Tour.
Since their debut in 1999, Selah has garnered eight Top 10
Christian radio singles and three Dove Awards for Inspirational
Album of the Year, along with a 2002 Dove for Traditional
Gospel Recorded Song for "Hold On."
